The rig upgrade design, also a joint effort between the Client and ourselves, was selected with a complete variety of operations in mind.
The rig has strongly proven itself as the fit for purpose and versatile tool as intended, through among others the feature of an accurate and flexible MH RamRig drilling package and a favourable layout for completion, work over and P&A operations,
The rig’s Aker H3 hull design, developed by the Norwegian Aker Group, has demonstrated its robustness through decades of North Sea operations. It’s proven good motion characteristics; a result of careful design and testing. It’s high air gap to avoid wave slamming; recently documented positive in accordance with the new OTG-13 calculations of same by DNV-GL.
The combination of the strong efforts by people and a tool optimized for its purpose, has led to Bideford Dolphin becoming a true example of a North Sea workhorse.
